HISTORY OF GIRLS CLUBS
As a result of prayer and vision, the International Department of Women’s Ministries initiated Young Ladies Ministries (YLM) in 1969 . The department was seeking to minister to and train young women in Christian graces and lifestyle. This vision was prompted by the desire to obey the scriptural admonition which exhorts the older women to teach the younger women.
As the YLMs (grades 7 through 12) grew in number, the need for clubs for younger girls was realized. Therefore, Joy Belles (grades 4-6) was introduced in 1974 and Bluebelles (grades 1-3) in 1984 . And in 2002 , Little Sweethearts , a club for pre-school girls was introduced. A new curriculum, “Joy Belles Faith Journey, Year One, Faith: Blossoming was released in May 2011.
These clubs are the result of the giving of many hours of dedication and concern by a number of precious women servants who cared enough to share their time, energy, and special abilities. Those who first saw the need and initiated this ministry are now joined by the many coordinators, counselors, prayer mothers, pastors’ wives, and laywomen who foster and promote this successful ministry today and into the future.
